Thank you for your interest in the Muslim Education and Converts Center of America. The New Muslims Program (NMP) is M.E.C.C.A.’s central course. It is a three month program made up of three branches, each of which is designed primarily to help recent converts to Islam learn the essentials of Islamic belief, practice, and way of life in a supportive environment. Although the course is designed for new Muslims, it is also open to other Muslims who have not had the opportunity to learn the basics of Islamic observance, and others who are interested to learn. In the event that class space is limited, preference will be given to new converts.  The two classes: Basics of Belief and Practice  and Living Islam are offered weekly, in a three hour block.

  • Basics of Belief and Practice classes teach new Muslims the absolute essentials of the faith and how to practice the five pillars, from how to make wudhu (ritual purification before prayer) and pray to a very basic overview of the Sirah (the biography of the Prophet Muhammad, pbuh). Teachers will use a combination of teaching materials, including slide shows, DVDs, live demonstrations, and field trips, to help students learn the things that are obligatory upon every Muslim.
  • Living Islam classes will help students begin to build a way of life based upon the Qur’an and Sunnah. Students will receive essential knowledge about issues ranging from banking to dietary laws, while receiving empathetic and practical advice about dealing with their families and coping with change.
  • The Converts Partnership Program is an innovative mentorship program. Students will be assigned a mentor for a designated period of time. The mentor will offer support, friendship, advice, and help learning the pillars of Islam.
